A Brief History

How It All Started
The Integrated Drug & Poison Information Services (IDPIS) was initiated based on research at Universiti Sains Malaysia.

1982

1988

Launching of IDPIS
Launch of IDPIS nationwide via TELITA, a national videotex system in collaboration with Telekom Malaysia.
Setting up NPC
Initial announcement by the Ministry of Education on the setting up of the Malaysia National Poison Centre in Universiti Sains Malaysia.

1993

1994

APPROVED BY CABINET
Cabinet formally approved the setting up of the National Poison Centre (NPC) on March 30th.
COMMENCEMENT OF OPERATION
NPC commenced operation offering two services: (1) Drug and Poison Information (2) Education and Prevention.

1995

1996

Services expanded
PRN services expanded to include: (1) Research and Documentation; (2) Toxicology Laboratory
Launched
The Malaysian Drug and Poison Net.

1996

1996

OFFICIAL OPENING
Official opening by the Minister of Education.
15th anniversary
15th anniversary of IDPIS (1982-1997) - "Celebrating 15 years of Teamwork"

1997

1998

Full member ISDB
PRN accepted as a full member of the International Society of Drugs Bulletin (ISDB) based in Paris.
Designated WHO
PRN designated as a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Drug Information effective April, 6th.
